I'm reading 2 Chronicles.  King Asa of Judah started out as a good king, trusting and committed to God… that is until he was older.  He stopped seeking God, trusting God, and doing what was right.  Rather than “seeking God first” (John 6:33), it seemed that he simply did what was right in his own eyes.  Sadly we read that he didn't finish well (c.f. chapter 16).

Now that I'm in my mid-50's and thinking over the years, I find myself wondering how I will finish.

Recently I was forwarded a news story (http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2011/06/21/do-need-new-bible/) it seems to propose that we need a new Bible.

The article states, “Ultimately, our ability to learn not only from the Bibles in which we do believe, but also from those in which we do not, may be the most important intellectual-spiritual capacity for living peacefully in our increasingly inter-connected world.”

So, the position here is that we, the reader of the Bible, can actualize reality simply by believing in it.  The Bible is not authoritative over our life rather it simply contains points society may leverage.  It isn’t inherently right OR wrong, the Bible just contains things we may learn about a better life from.

I was wondering who would show up at church after we were all to be raptured on Saturday… and then it occurred to me, “Hey, wait a minute… I’m still here!”  Oy Vey!  Let me ask, were you at all surprised that Mr. Camping’s “prophesy” didn’t come true?  Sadly, Mr. Camping was what the Bible calls a “spiritual fool”, and a “false prophet”.  So what now?

A few years ago a friend came to me quite bothered by something.  It seems she was concerned as to what would happen to her home and things… who would get them… what would become of it all if she and her family were raptured?  My response:

A few months ago while teaching though a study – of all things – on the Book of Revelation; I got hold of a brochure from Harold Camping, President of Family Radio in CA.  In it he was laying out his latest prediction that Jesus will come to rapture His church on Saturday, May 21st (Whoa dude… just a few days away!)  I’m familiar with this guy as he predicted such a thing once before – 1994, and was wrong.   And sadly, he isn’t the only nut-job to do this.
